Harvel is a village located in Christian County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 235.
Harvel is located at 39°21'21" North, 89°31'53" West (39.355804, -89.531317).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.9 km2 (0.7 mi2). 1.9 km2 (0.7 mi2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 235 people, 99 households, and 59 families residing in the village. The population density was 124.3/km2 (323.2/mi2). There were 106 housing units at an average density of 56.1/km2 (145.8/mi2). The racial makeup of the village was 96.60% White, 0.85% African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. 0.43% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 99 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were married couples living together, 4.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.4% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 3.15.
