Yates City is a village located in Knox County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 725.

Geography

Yates City is located at 40°46'41" North, 90°0'55" West (40.778143, -90.015280).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.5 km2 (0.6 mi2). 1.5 km2 (0.6 mi2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 725 people, 299 households, and 209 families residing in the village. The population density was 474.4/km2 (1,235.2/mi2). There were 322 housing units at an average density of 210.7/km2 (548.6/mi2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.90% White, 0.41% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 299 households out of which 28.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 27.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the village the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
